Introduction to IV fluids

What is the difference between crystalloids and colloids? What are the fluid compartments of the body? How much IV fluid is needed to replace a blood loss of 1000 mL. IV fluid replacement can be very confusing. There is a large amount of discussion in the scientific medical journals about fluid resuscitation in trauma care. This podcast is a brief introduction of some of the concepts and terms of IV fluid therapy. Also presented is the science as to why IV fluid therapy is so ineffective in volume expansion.
